AutoCAD Drafter

The Location(s): Fredericksburg, VA and Sterling, VA

The Position: Express Technologies is seeking AutoCAD Drafters to join our telecom engineering team. Our projects range from civil road base drawings to simple 2D building designs. We are looking for candidates with at least one year of AutoCAD experience, but we are also open to entry-level applicants with relevant drafting or design education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and modify 2D drawings using AutoCAD
  • Work on telecom and civil engineering design projects
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to produce accurate drafting deliverables
  • Conduct field work using GPS equipment to collect site data

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Entry-level candidates with drafting/design coursework encouraged to apply
  • Experience or willingness to work in the field collecting data with GPS units
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow design standards
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test (drug-free workplace)
  • Must pass a background check (DCJS compliance)

OSP Engineer

The Position: We are seeking an OSP Engineer responsible for conducting field activities to support telecommunications projects. Work functions include desktop feasibility analysis using Google Earth, pole/conduit/site surveys, OSP field engineering, and related tasks. The successful candidate will take full ownership of assignments, schedules, and deadlines while working independently and in collaboration with senior engineers and project managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Google Earth analysis of potential network routes.
  • Collect and review field data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform preliminary route reconnaissance and selection.
  • Complete field surveys to support make-ready solutions that meet client specifications.
  • Participate in joint ride-outs with utilities as required.
  • Support conduit licensing processes across multiple utilities.
  • Review client specifications, design standards, and construction guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Document findings in required forms and formats for drafting or client deliverables.
  • Identify ownership of known subsurface obstructions along proposed routes.
  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings and bid documents.
  • Attend project status meetings, permit coordination sessions, and design criteria meetings.
  • Prepare, review, and recommend project documents and drawings for client approval.
  • Assist with construction contract estimates.
  • Investigate and resolve design-related issues during the removal phase.
